How to adopt
I briefly covered this in the FAQ (If I haven't taken it out at this point, haha) but adopting from RITN is super simple!
Step one!
Apply via our simple super duper awesome adoption application (Which can be found here... Or here... Or even here!)
Step two!
Wait for the conformation email stating your application has been reviewed and approved! In this conformation email you will get a code (It's something simple and is what I will use in record keeping! This can take me a couple days! But if you don't get this within 48 hours let me know, I've had the form act up once and send the application into the abyss!)
Step three!
On the day I post available babies- they will be in designated albums and there will be a 24 hour posting notice that babies will be posted the following day! When you go through these albums, read a bit about the rat and see if they're what you're after! If you see a rat you want, comment the code I sent you in the email on the photo!
Step four!
When I've confirmed that you can reserve that rat (I'll have gotten the record together and ready!) I'll have you send an invoice request (I'll give you the link!) for the non refundable deposit! This MUST BE PAID within 48 hours of reserving rats or the rats will be reposted as available!
Step five!
Once the deposit has been paid for, then congrats (Get it?! Okay sorry)! You have reserved your rats!! Now it's just about waiting the three weeks for the babies to be ready to go and you can come pick them up. Remember a carrier! Babies get a carb heavy meal the day of their adoption so they'll sleep through the trip home!
What to expect!
So! You have your new babies home and are curious on what you can expect from here on out?
Simple! Hyperactivity. Lots... And Lots of hyperactivity! Followed by periods of resting up (Also known as 'recharging' if you ask me)
Sometimes, however, ratties can be a bit sneezy the first couple of days! This is called 'new home sneezes' and is caused by their respiratory system getting used to their new environment and the smells it carries.
If this continues past the 4 day mark, look down the following checklist!
> What bedding are they on? Is it paper based? Paper based bedding does nothing for ammonia, so it can often cause outbreaks of respiratory upset. Remove the paper bedding and replace with something much better like aspen or pine! (And before the confusion, yes, pine is fine as long as it's kiln dried! They've updated the methods of kiln drying and it is 100% safe for ratties and other small animals!)
> Any perfumes or strong-smelling laundry soaps? Perfumey smells can cause sniffles as well! Because rats have poor eyesight, they rely on their other senses! This is both hearing and smell! Which means they're more sensitive to smelly goods! Air-fresheners and essential oil diffusers can cause the same effect!
> Any open windows, drafts, fans, etc, around them? Temperature changes can cause sneezy episodes as well!
If none of this applies and your rats are still heavily sneezing after 4 days (or if their lungs sound crackly) please let me know ASAP and we'll see what we can do!
Got questions?
If you have questions I may just have answers! Be it a day after adoption or a year after adoption! Ask all day every day if you want to! If I don't know the answer I'll look until I can find one or someone who may be able to answer it! No question is stupid and you're always encouraged to ask!
